The health ministry commemorated World Mental Health Day in Windhoek yesterday, kicking off proceedings with a 1.5 kilometre mental health awareness walk.

The event featured an array of speeches on topics such as the state of mental health in the workplace, the prevalence of suicide and suicide prevention strategies.

Lundbeck, a pharmaceutical company, hosted a stand where visitors could access information and flyers on depression and schizophrenia, including self-assessment tools for these mental health conditions.

Attendees could engage in fitness sessions such as yoga, presented by the Indian embassy and zumba, pilates and grid classes led by Virgin Active instructors. Additionally, a wellness screening stand was offered by a group of social workers and a jumping castle was provided for the little ones.
