NamBTS appeals for urgent help

NEWS IN SHORT
STAFF REPORTER
The Blood Transfusion Service of Namibia (NamBTS) has issued an urgent call for blood donations, warning that "otherwise a chronic blood shortage will remain leading into the New Year."

“Simply put, we need 200 units of whole blood per day to see us through December and January“, said Zita Tobin of NamBTS.

“Current blood stock levels are the lowest since 2020, with only a mere five days of blood stock. This will drop drastically over the next few weeks, creating a blood shortage,” NamBTS warned.

The service noted that demand for blood increases with increased car accidents during the holiday season while cancer patients continue with their treatment during the holidays and babies continue to be born with some babies and mothers requiring a life-saving transfusion.
