MVA, RFA and Namdia spruce up Katutura hospital
The Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund last week announced the completion of renovations of toilets and bathrooms at the Katutura Intermediate Hospital, totalling N$1.7 million.
The MVA’s contribution amounted to N$1.2 million.
The Road Fund Administration (RFA) also joined the initiative, contributing N$300 000, along with Namib Desert Diamonds (Namdia) Foundation, which has pledged N$200 000.
"MVA Fund, in collaboration with the RFA and Namdia, has renovated the ablution facilities on the second and third floors of the Katutura State Hospital. The N$1.7 million worth of renovations were done to ensure a more hygienic and comfortable environment for both patients and healthcare staff," MVA Fund CEO Rosalia Martins-Hausiku said in a statement.
The five-month-long project saw the renovation of both the women's and men's toilets on the two floors, including improvements and repairs to showers, bathtubs and wash basins, contributing to an overall facelift of these facilities.
"The project also included the renovations of dedicated sluice rooms and staff toilets on the same floors," Martins-Hausiku said.
Together for positive change
Martins-Hausiku explained that the collaboration between the three institutions highlights the power of public-private partnerships in fostering positive change.
RFA CEO Ali Ipinge said that the responsibility to exercise a duty of care is important and is at the core of RFA's mandate.
"In line with this commitment, we engage in corporate social investment programmes; thus, this project represents a strategic investment in enhancing healthcare infrastructure," he said.
Duty of care
In November 2023, late president Hage Geingob officially opened the doors to a brand-new emergency unit at the Katutura State Hospital, courtesy of MVA and Standard Bank Namibia.
The facility, Project 9682, was valued at N$12.6 million and included a new resuscitation room with eight beds, including oxygen and electrical supplies for each bed.
