The FirstRand Foundation donated N$200 000 to the Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN) on the last day of October to benefit one of its safe houses.

First National Bank (FNB), through the FirstRand Foundation, contributed N$600 000 between 2015 and 2018 and N$750 000 between 2020 and 2022 to CAN.

CAN said its interim homes (House Acacia and CHICA) saw an extreme influx of patients who had restarted cancer treatment in Windhoek post-Covid.

"In 2021, 143 patients from 10 regions received comfortable accommodation, three nutritional meals a day and transport to medical treatment centers.

"Against this background, FirstRand Foundation handed over N$200 000 to the Cancer Association of Namibia for House Acacia," said Anita Naude from CAN.

CAN also received donations from the FNB Breast Buddies Project, made possible with contributions from staff members through the FNB Employee Payroll Giving Initiative valued at N$20 000.

"The project produced 167 pairs of prosthetics, pillows, and bags and sold about 700 crochet hearts with the support of Hester's team, the Change Organisation, and FirstRand," the foundation stated.
