Exercise in supporting breast cancer recovery

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Biokinetics Association of Namibia (BAN) highlights the importance of exercise in supporting recovery for breast cancer patients.

Studies have shown that a structured exercise programme can help reduce the risk of recurrence, manage side effects, and enhance overall quality of life.

“Exercise is a crucial component in the recovery process for breast cancer patients. Through personalised programmes, we can help individuals regain their strength, improve mobility, and reduce the recovery time following chemotherapy and surgery,” BAN spokesperson Henry Boshoff, said.

Biokineticists play a key role in guiding patients through safe and effective exercises, which may include low-impact activities like walking, swimming, and stretching. These activities improve physical fitness and promote mental well-being by alleviating stress and boosting energy levels.

Boshoff adds: “We encourage breast cancer patients to seek professional advice from certified biokineticists to ensure they are engaging in exercises that are both safe and beneficial for their recovery”.

For more information on how biokinetics can assist in breast cancer recovery, visit the BAN website (www.ban.org.na) or contact any BAN members for a consultation.
