B2Gold supports the fight against cancer

The Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN) and B2Gold Namibia this week launched the first in a series of “2022 Pink Drive” events in support of women’s health and cancer awareness.

A garden tea party with acclaimed South African artist, Sonja Herholdt, will take place in Otjiwarongo on 17 September 2022. Herholdt is a friend and supporter of CAN, and she performed at the CAN Erongo Centre’s "Hats and Roses Ladies Breakfast" in Swakopmund in 2019. Various gala fundraisers are slated for September and October, to fund CAN’s annual breast cancer and cervical cancer screening campaigns.

B2Gold Namibia managing director Mark Dawe said according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), an increase in non-communicable diseases (NCDs) is evident in most developing countries and Namibia is no exception. Cancer is one of the four major NCDs with cervical, breast and prostate cancer being amongst the top five.

"At B2Gold, we continue to recognise that social responsibility is an integral component of business. Our corporate social investment allows us to add value beyond the production of gold and we strive to create as many positive changes in as many spheres as possible. It is against this background we felt the need to support the fantastic work that CAN is doing nationwide."

The Herholdt garden party will take place on 17 September 2022 from 9:00 at the Crocodile Ranch at Otjiwarongo. Tickets are for sale at N$350 per person and includes refreshments. Tickets are available in advance from CAN at 061 237740 or the Crocodile Farm in Otjiwarongo.
