Wlotzkasbaken council building inaugurated
The Namibian government inaugurated a new council building over the weekend in Wlotzkasbaken, a small settlement situated midway between Swakopmund and Henties Bay.
The office was inaugurated with the purpose of bringing development closer to the people and serving residents with effective and efficient service delivery.
The settlement will now be a part of the Arandis constituency in the Erongo Regional Council.
Development plans
The area will be developed in various phases, of which phases one and two have been completed with the help of local authorities. This project is a product of the mandatory 5% contribution towards regional development.
Apart from the construction of the building, the principal strategy for the provision of water supply to households has been completed.
According to Erongo regional council chairperson, Benitha Imbamba "a water reservoir and a 5-kilometre pipeline from NamWater to Wlotzkasbaken will be constructed towards the development of the area,” she said.
The regional council, together with the Swakopmund municipality and works ministry, also recently commenced with the approval of building plans for Wlotzkasbaken settlement.
Transformation
Urban and rural development minister Erastus Uutoni confirmed the re-approval of proposed township establishments and the creation of an additional 470 erven within Wlotzkasbaken settlement, together with the proposed structure plan and town planning scheme.
The regional council further approved the subdivision of the townlands for the construction of a Namwater desalination plant.
He said government continues to improve conditions for transforming rural areas as stipulated in respective policies that cut across rural development, particularly the National Rural Development Policy and Strategy, which is up for review later this year.
“Our rural areas have a great potential for diversifying economic activities, mainly to drive transformation and overall livelihoods," he said.
