Windhoek, Bremen strengthen ties
News in short
The relationship between Windhoek and Bremen is a testament to the power of people-to-people connections and the shared values of solidarity, friendship and cooperation.
This according to Windhoek mayor Queen Kamati, who made the remarks when the Namibian capital signed a sister cities agreement with the German municipality yesterday morning. The agreement marks the continuation of a partnership born in 1975 during the liberation struggle, she said.
“Since then, Windhoek and Bremen have successfully collaborated on various projects that have made significant contributions to the sustainable development of our city.”
The signing ceremony was preceded by a visit to local historical sites, including the Independence Memorial Museum, where the councillors reflected on the shared history between Namibia and Germany.
Kamati pointed out that they now embrace this history - not as a burden, but as a foundation for a future built on mutual respect, collaboration and progress. “Our shared values of sustainability, innovation and solidarity will guide us as we embark on this exciting new chapter in our relationship."
