RUSSIAN VISIT
RUSSIAN VISIT: President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah this week received a courtesy visit from Yury Trutnev, deputy prime minister and presidential envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District of the Russian Federation, to discuss key areas of strategic cooperation between Namibia and Russia.
The meeting focused on economic cooperation, energy security and education, with an emphasis on resource beneficiation to ensure Namibia maximises economic benefits from its raw materials. Addressing national priorities such as poverty reduction and youth unemployment, Nandi-Ndaitwah underscored the importance of fostering bilateral relations that drive sustainable development through the Intergovernmental Commission.
Discussions also highlighted skills development and education, recognising the growing number of Namibian students in Russia and the need to expand training in key sectors. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, ensuring that economic cooperation builds on the long-standing historical relations between the two nations.
