Presidential spokesperson Alfredo Hengari has jumped to the defence of President Hage Geingob following a recent visit to Katutura, saying there is nothing untoward about the president mingling with members of the public.

Geingob was spotted at a popular bar last weekend, and attracted wide backlash following his sojourn.

“On Sunday, 15 October, President Hage Geingob - as he routinely does - chose to take an afternoon drive and visit to Katutura. This not the first time the president takes time from his busy schedule to interact with fellow citizens around Windhoek,” Hengari said of Geingob’s social interactions.

According to him, the head of state often makes time to interact with members of the public in his spare time.

“He does so in Swakopmund, or Tsumeb when on retreat at his farm, which is a few kilometres away. He goes to a mall after church or drives around the city, including Katutura to interact with fellow Namibians."

“We should applaud President Geingob’s proximity to fellow Namibians from all walks of life. Opposition politicians should follow that example,” he added.
