Ondangwa CEO highlights investor-friendly environment
Ondangwa CEO Ismael Namugongo says the local authority has created a conducive environment for investors to establish thriving businesses.
He said Ondangwa has ample land available for investors who wish to set up manufacturing businesses, adding that the northern town intends to become industrialised to boost the local economy and address high unemployment among the youth.
Namugongo made these remarks in an exclusive interview with Ewi lyaNooli, highlighting development projects the town has completed and is currently working on.
Ondangwa's biggest project currently is the construction of a state-of-the-art sports facility, with an estimated budget of about N$250 million.
“We are saying we want to be an industrial town in the north. So all people who have the will and capacity to set up a manufacturing plant and start manufacturing in Ondangwa, you are welcome. We've got ample land for that,” Namugongo said.
Land for housing a priority
On the issue of land delivery and the construction of houses, Namugongo said that Ondangwa has availed land for housing projects over the years and will continue to do so.
“We have seen massive investment in terms of property development, private property development in Ondangwa over the years,” Namugongo said.
“That shows you the potential that we have in this town. So if you are an investor out there, a homeowner out there who wants to stay, you're welcome to stay in Ondangwa," he said.
He added that the town has "massively invested in land availability, massive investment in the building of the houses, and massive investment also in the low-cost housing projects that we have here.
“In December alone, we have given out a lot of land for people to build – low-income earners to build their houses for free, for that matter. But we are also not [neglecting] the other parts of the working class. So we are catering for both.”
Namugongo also referenced the Andimba Toivo ya Toivo Airport in Ondangwa, noting that it distinguishes Ondangwa from other towns.
Regarding youth upliftment, the Ondangwa Trade Fair Centre is always hosting various trading events, including the annual Ondangwa Trade and Industrial Exhibition, which hosts corporate companies, SMEs and thousands of visitors.
