The defence ministry has announced that the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) will hold a street procession and equipment display ahead of the country’s 35th independence anniversary and the inauguration of Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as the country's fifth president.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, with the procession set to begin at 09:00. The route will start at the intersection of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Road and Independence Avenue, passing through Wanaheda and Greenwell locations, and concluding at Ausspannplatz.

Outgoing president Nangolo Mbumba, the commander-in-chief of the NDF, is expected to mount the dais at approximately 10:00 at the City of Windhoek parking area, where he will receive the salute from the troops.

The street procession and equipment display aim to showcase the strength and unity of Namibia’s military forces while fostering national pride among citizens, a statement said. The public is invited to attend and witness the event, which will serve as a key highlight ahead of the country’s official independence celebrations.
