Katjavivi visits Cuba
Week-long official visit
The visit is aimed at deepening legislative collaboration between Namibia and Cuba, with a focus on education, healthcare and parliamentary diplomacy.
The Speaker of the National Assembly Peter Katjavivi - accompanied by members of the National Assembly - on Sunday met with 10 Namibian students out of a group of 33 studying at Universidad Central 'Marta Abreu' de Las Villas in Santa Clara, Cuba.
Katjavivi is currently visiting Cuba, leading a multi-party parliamentary delegation on a week-long official visit from 20 to 26 October - at the invitation of Juan Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the Cuban national assembly.
The visit is aimed at deepening legislative collaboration between the two countries, with a focus on education, healthcare and parliamentary diplomacy. During the trip, Katjavivi will hold meetings with other key Cuban parliamentary leaders as well.
According to a statement, Katjavivi told students that their education will empower them to address the challenges facing Namibia and promote positive change in their communities. “Education is a transformative force. Your time here in Cuba not only represents personal development, but also serves as an investment in the future of Namibia. The knowledge and skills you acquire will be essential as you contribute to our nation. Cuba is renowned for its rich history, culture and dedication to education. As students, you play a crucial role in nation-building. We urge you to engage actively in your studies and community initiatives. Your voices are important, and your participation in social and political matters is vital for the progress of our democracy.”
