#JUSTIN: US First Lady visits Namibia
Dr. Jill Biden, wife of US President Joe Biden, arrives in Namibia tomorrow and will be welcomed by Namibia’s First Lady Monica Geingos.
During her stay, Dr. Biden will also will have a courtesy visit with Pres. Hage Geingob and other high-ranking officials.
She will also travel to Kenya and is scheduled to leave Africa on Sunday.
The purpose of her visit is to strengthen the United States’ partnerships on the African continent, and advance their shared priorities in the region, the US Embassy in Windhoek said this afternoon.
“Biden’s engagements will focus on the empowerment of women and youth, efforts to address food insecurity, and promoting our shared democratic values,” the embassy said.
The visit follows the US-Africa Leaders’ Summit late last year where Dr. Biden – who has a doctoral degree in education - hosted a two-day spousal programme.
This will be Dr. Biden’s sixth visit to Africa: first visit to Namibia and third visit to Kenya.
