Indefinite water interruptions for Ongwediva residents

The Ongwediva Town Council on Tuesday announced that the town is currently experiencing water distribution challenges, which will last for an unspecified period of time.

Ongwediva has been plagued by water and electricity shortages for the past few weeks, with some terming the former 'water shedding'. It has also affected businesses in town which rely on water for their daily operations. Residents have expressed frustration with the town council’s announcements, which they said are issued when taps are already dry.

In a public notice, council spokesperson Ottilie Shingenge said their technical team is working around clock to ensure that normal water supply is restored. “The water will be closed every day to fill up the towers that supply to different areas in and around the town respectively [sic],” she said.

She added that residents should take note that water supply will occasionally be restored once the towers are "completely filled up". Shingenge urged residents to stock up on water in containers in the meantime.

While apologising for the inconvenience, Shingenge explained that the water distribution issue is caused by low pressure flow into the towers.

“We are experiencing a very low pressure in our tower which supplies the residents; it's not sufficient. We are not sure of the fault. The technical team is on the ground to investigate it,” she said.
