Ghana and Namibia seek to strengthen bilateral ties

President Nangolo Mbumba has concluded a two-day working visit to Ghana, held from 8 to 9 January 2025, during which he attended the inauguration of Ghana’s newly elected leader, President John Dramani Mahama.During their discussions, Presidents Mbumba and Mahama focused on strengthening relations between Namibia and Ghana. Topics included the historic election of Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as Ghana's first female Vice President, which President Mbumba praised as a milestone for gender equality in Africa.According to a press statement issued by the Namibian Presidency, Mbumba emphasized the importance of enhancing collaboration in commercial sectors, particularly agriculture and beef trade.“President Mbumba thanked President Mahama for Ghana's pivotal role in strengthening Namibia’s diplomatic service over the years. Following the discovery of oil and gas resources in Namibia, President Mbumba expressed confidence that Ghana's expertise in the oil, gas, and mining sectors would significantly benefit Namibia’s development,” the statement read.Regional and international solidarityIn addition to bilateral discussions, the two leaders addressed regional and international issues, emphasizing the need for solidarity with nations like Cuba and Palestine.President Mahama also highlighted the importance of Africa asserting ownership and control over its natural resources. Both presidents agreed on the necessity of closer cooperation in agriculture and called for Africa to adopt a unified voice in international relations.This visit marks a significant step forward in strengthening the ties between Namibia and Ghana, with both nations expressing optimism about future collaboration.
