Finance ministry rebaptised – again
The finance ministry will reclaim its original name and will no longer be known as the Ministry of Finance and Social Grants Management, as previously announced when the new government took office in March.
“Following careful consideration, it has been officially decided that the ministry shall be named the Ministry of Finance, in accordance with Proclamation No. 13 of 2025,” ministry spokesperson Wilson Shikoto said in a statement issued yesterday.
Speaking to Namibian Sun, Shikoto clarified that despite reverting to its former name, the ministry will continue to oversee the management of social grants.
Until March, the institution operated under the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises name. The new administration has since reassigned all public enterprises to their respective line ministries.
