Deportation of 500 Americans is 'fake news'
NEWS IN SHORT
International relations ministry executive director Penda Naanda on Tuesday confirmed that a social media post claiming Namibia would deport over 500 Americans was fake news.
The viral reports, which began circulating on Sunday, falsely claimed that President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah stated that if Africans need visas to enter the US, then Americans should require visas to enter Namibia.
This supposed “bold move” by Nandi-Ndaitwah allegedly sent a clear message: no visa, no stay.
“I am not aware of any Americans being deported from Namibia. That is fake news,” Naanda told Namibian Sun in a telephonic interview.
