AI to 'replace people who don't embrace AI'

Not the solution to every problem
While artificial intelligence could be a useful tool for many companies, it should not to be used as a solution to every problem.

Michael Langeveld, the head of technology and business development for the Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and several other experts at the third BCX Transform summit believe that artificial intelligence (AI) is nothing to be afraid of, but that there are still measures needed for its regulation. About the infamous issue of job losses due to AI, Langeveld says: "AI is not going to replace people; AI is going to replace people who don't embrace AI".

However, he warned that institutions and their employees must take care of what information they provide to AI systems. "One of the inherent dangers is that your intellectual property is shared with AI and then everyone can have access to it," he said.

Standard Bank Namibia's head of operations and technology, Jules Baruani, explained that AI has its benefits and can help prevent fraud in his sector, while Jorn Schnoor, Nampost's chief executive of information and technology, shared that AI is not to be used as a blanket solution for all problems that may arise.

BCX data advisory executive Stefan Steffen suggested in his presentation at the summit that AI is simply going to enable people to do more in less time and thus boost productivity at companies.
