#JustIn: Discussion on the role of journalism in democracy
As part of the German Weeks 2023, the Deutsche Welle Akademie will screen the film "Guardians of Truth" at the Goethe-Institut on September 26, followed by a panel discussion on the topic of journalism's role in democracy. The renowned Turkish journalist Can Dündar, who served as the editor-in-chief of the Cumhuriyet newspaper until August 2016, will be part of the panel discussion.
Dündar has written for various newspapers, produced numerous television programs for TRT World and various private channels, including CNN Türk and NTV, and published more than 20 books. Dündar is a recipient of the International Press Freedom Award from the Committee to Protect Journalists. Since June 2016, he has been living in exile in Germany, with an arrest warrant against him in Turkey. He is currently the editor-in-chief of Özgürüz, an internet radio station operated by the German nonprofit newsroom Correctiv.
The panel discussion will commence on Tuesday at 18:30 for 19:00.
