JUST IN: Talk shares insight into prehistoric rock art

Yandi Du Plessis
On Thursday, 15 June, the Namibia Scientific Society will present a public talk by András Zboray on prehistoric rock art from the Sahara. The evening will give an illustrative overview of the most important Saharan rock art areas and styles, their chronology and their contemporary place in the environment. A number of interesting parallels can be drawn between Saharan and Namibian rock art, suggesting similar lifestyles and patterns of adaptation to similar environmental challenges. Zboray has been studying Saharan rock art for more than three decades, spending much of this time studying the prehistoric art in the Jebel Uweinat - Gilf Kebir region in the middle of the Libyan desert - on the converging borders of present-day Egypt, Libya and Sudan. He is the author of several publications on the subject. The event is open to the public and starts at 19:00.
