HUMAN RIGHTS DAY CELEBRATES NAMIBIAN WOMEN: Namibia yesterday joined nations around the world in commemorating International Human Rights Day. In Namibia, the day holds special significance as it celebrates the heroic deeds of Namibian women.

At the official commemoration event held yesterday, Khomasdal constituency councillor Samuel Angolo referred to 10 December as the "Day of Namibian Women," honouring figures like Kakurukaze Mungunda, who, in 1959, alongside other fearless women, resisted the forced removals from the Old Location (now Hochland Park) to Katutura by the South African apartheid regime.

A wreath was laid at the tombstone of Mungunda and other martyrs who perished in the 1959 skirmishes at the Old Location Cemetery in Windhoek. Photo: Rita Kakelo
