Heroes’ Day to be held in Omuthiya
News in short
The information ministry this week announced that this year’s Heroes’ Day commemorations will be held at the Omuthiya Recreational Park in the Oshikoto Region. The event will be hosted under the theme 'Honouring martyrs’.
Executive director Audrin Mathe urged individuals nationwide to “make their way to Omuthiya to commemorate the living heroes and heroines - martyrs who sacrificed lives and time for the nation to be free”.
He added: “Heroes’ Day is commemorated annually to pay homage and reflect on the bravery of the heroes and heroines of the liberation struggle, which began on 26 August 1966 at Omugulugwombashe and paved the way for a sovereign and independent Namibia”.
Oshikoto governor Penda Ya Ndakolo said Namibians should attend “in big numbers” to “pay tribute to our heroes and heroines, and reflect on their contributions”.
