Usakos launches clean-up campaign

Usakos is gearing up for a clean-up campaign slated to take place on 4 December in anticipation of the upcoming festive season.

Usakos residents are rallying together to contribute to a welcoming environment for those passing through on their way to the coast and back.

Nanguei Tjipura, an environmental officer stationed in Usakos, said the town is considered the gateway to the coast and anticipates an influx of visitors during the festive period.

"Our town serves as a crucial stop for those en route to the coast and back. With numerous holidaymakers and tourists passing through, it's imperative that we present a pristine and inviting environment."

Community teamwork

The clean-up campaign aims not only to enhance the aesthetics of Usakos but also serves the purpose of promoting a sense of community responsibility. Residents are therefore encouraged to actively participate in this initiative by disposing of waste responsibly and keeping public spaces clean.

Members of the municipal solid waste collection team will be taking to the streets in support of the community-led clean-up initiative.

The exercise, which serves as a testament to Usakos' commitment to environmental stewardship and community pride, will commence at 08:00. The waste collection team will cover various areas of the town and distribute plastic bags to facilitate the proper disposal of waste.

Tjipura said he looks forward to the exercise. "By working together, we can ensure that Usakos remains an attractive destination for all and contribute to a positive experience for both residents and visitors."
