Namibia attends popular US hunting expos
Namibian hunting sector represented at huge convention
Around 30 Namibian exhibitors took part in two hunting conventions in the US in January.
Around 30 Namibian representatives attended the popular international hunting expo hosted by Safari Club International (SCI) in Nashville in the United States last week. The event attracted record numbers, with over 18 000 hunting and outdoor enthusiasts and 950 exhibitors in attendance.
In mid-January, representatives from Namibia’s hunting sector, the Namibia Tourism Board (NTB) and Namibia's ambassador to the US, Margaret Mensah-Williams, attended the Dallas Safari Club hunting convention in Atlanta, Georgia.
Members of the Namibia Professional Hunting Association (Napha) attended both hunting expos.
While environment, forestry and tourism minister, Pohamba Shifeta did not attend the Dallas Safari Club hunting expo this year, as he usually does, ministry officials were present at the SCI hunting expo.
According to Napha president Axel Cramer, both hunting expos were a tremendous success, with Namibia’s flag flying high in the US.
"About 30 Namibian exhibitors participated in Nashville from Wednesday to Saturday. Some of our Napha members confirmed there was significant interest, particularly in big-game hunting trips for elephants, crocodiles and buffaloes, but not as much for plains game," Cramer told Network Media Hub (NMH) from Nashville.
He added that there was strong competition from Africa at the expos, particularly from South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia.
