MESMERISING SIGHT AS SWAKOP RIVER REACHES ATLANTIC
MESMERISING SIGHT AS SWAKOP RIVER REACHES ATLANTIC: The Swakop River reached the Atlantic Ocean on Tuesday night – the first time since 2022. A large crowd gathered on and underneath the bridge at Swakopmund until sunset to witness the event or splash in the water. Adam Hartman from Erongo reported that the river had carved a massive channel, about 30 metres wide and nearly two metres deep, from the lagoon to the sea. By sunrise yesterday, the dramatic flow had turned into a small stream. The sea turned dark brown from the mud and sand, with even a few freshwater fish washed ashore.
