GROWING STRONG
GROWING STRONG: Danger and her surviving 13 puppies, taken under the care of the Namibian Animal Welfare Association (NAWA) earlier this week, are growing stronger every day with supplemental feeding and medical support.
Namibian Sun reported on Sunday that Danger, a dog from the Ombili location in Katutura, gave birth to 17 puppies. News of the unusual event reached NAWA, who immediately offered assistance due to the risks posed to both the mother and her pups. Large litters can jeopardise the health of both the mother and her puppies for various reasons.
"All 13 remaining puppies survived the night under our halfway house's TLC. Each was thoroughly checked by NAWA's Dr. Courtney, and Danger received vitamins and much-needed dewormer," the organisation shared on Tuesday.
The organisation noted that Danger's owner is in constant contact with the organisation and has agreed to spay her under NAWA's guidance at the appropriate time.
