Eight elephants collared
News in short
Over three years, Elephant Human Relations Aid (EHRA) carried out extensive fieldwork which led to the successful identification of herds of desert-adapted elephants and mature bulls in the Greater Omatjete elephant management area.
As a result, all the herds and four adult bulls are now equipped with satellite collars.
Namibia's north-western region faces a huge challenge with human-elephant conflict that threatens the safety and well-being of both humans and free-ranging elephants. To tackle the problem and find sustainable solutions, EHRA and the environment ministry have taken a significant step in their conservation efforts by equipping eight elephants with modern satellite collars.
With the implementation of an early elephant warning system and extensive long-term elephant movement studies, EHRA and the ministry are pioneering work aimed at promoting togetherness and harmony in the region.
