COP28: N$1.8m for Namibian pavilion

Ellanie Smit
Namibian businesses have sponsored a total of N$1.8 million for Namibia’s pavilion at the Conference of the Parties (COP 28), which is taking place in Dubai from 30 November to 12 December.

A handover event held this week formed part of the COP 28 delegation's pre-departure meeting.

It brought together nominated delegates by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) through the environment ministry.

Sharing Namibia's message

According to the Environmental Investment Fund (EIF), Namibia’s pavilion at COP 28 will offer a strategic platform to promote the nation’s climate goals and spotlight sustainable practices outlined in its National Determined Contributions (NDCs).

“Beyond a diplomatic centrepiece, it stands ready to engage international stakeholders, foster partnerships and make significant contributions to global climate discussions.”

Sponsorships were received from Bank Windhoek (N$300 000), Capricorn Foundation (N$200 000), Namibia Agronomic Board (N$600 000), RMB Namibia (N$200 000), Ninety One Namibia (N$100 000), and Climate Fund Managers (N$100 000).

Namibia Special Risks Insurance Association sponsored N$50 000, Standard Bank Namibia, NamibRe N$50 000, the United Nations Development Programme N$20 000 and Cranmore Partners N$182 943 to make Namibia's pavilion a reality.

“Beyond enhancing Namibia's visibility, these contributions play a pivotal role in shaping the global climate agenda," the EIF stated.
