Readathon promotes love of literacy
Inspiration for young learners
The annual readathon is aimed at promoting literacy, fostering a love for reading and encouraging the exploration of Namibian arts and culture.
Otjiwarongo is set to take part in the national readathon initiative, which is taking place under the theme 'Read Namibia: Discover the Strength of Arts and Culture through Reading', from 23 to 27 September.
According to the Otjozondjupa Region’s chief librarian, Aune Iyambo, the event provides a unique opportunity for children to improve their reading skills while providing a platform for the community to support the nation's educational goals by emphasising the importance of literacy and lifelong learning.
In a statement, the education ministry said the national readathon is an annual initiative aimed at promoting literacy, fostering a love for reading and encouraging the exploration of Namibian arts and culture.
"These activities are designed to inspire learners and showcase the richness of Namibia's cultural heritage," the ministry said.
“The week-long celebration will bring together learners from across the Otjozondjupa Region to participate in a wide range of activities, including storytelling, reading sessions, art exhibitions, poetry recitals and cultural performances.”
Iyambo noted that in collaboration with the Otjiwarongo constituency office and other key stakeholders, “we invite the public, parents, teachers and community leaders to join us in making this event a success.”
"Your presence will not only inspire young learners but also demonstrate our shared commitment to nurturing a generation of literate, creative, and culturally aware citizens," she added.
