Brighter future with Palms for Life scholarship

Swakopmund Palms for Life Programme students have extended a word of appreciation to the organisation for providing them with a "life-changing opportunity" through the San Youth Vocational Training Scholarship programme.

Palms for Life, an American-funded non-governmental organisation, in conjunction with the Community Skills Development Foundation (Cosdef) and the gender equality, poverty eradication and social welfare ministry launched the second phase of the programme (with a total of 344 students) last year.

A recipient of a Palms for Life scholarship and head boy of the Swakopmund group, Chief Goraeb, said that they are grateful for being chosen for the scholarship.

"We are honoured to have received this gift and appreciate the value Palms for Life places on helping aspiring students in our community advance their education."

Passport to the future

Goraeb explained that education is the passport to the future, "as tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today. We are grateful from the very depths of our hearts for your support of the San community".

According to Goraeb, the programme provides various benefits such as bursary agreements, a transport allowance, psycho-social support services, and student accommodation, which includes the provision of monthly food as well as a monthly allowance of N$550 per month.

"We are grateful for Palms for Life. The opportunity allows us to thrive in our schoolwork, and we will surely become qualified students in all our trades,” he said.

Goraeb stressed that the opportunity has “improved our living standards, and we are very grateful from the very depths of our hearts.”
