Choppies Namibia celebrated the opening of its 21st store in the country last week, adding 34 new jobs to the community.

The grand opening in Nkurenkuru brings Choppies’ total employment in Namibia to 1 034, said Rod Flanagan, deputy country manager of Choppies Namibia.

Flanagan said the new Nkurenkuru store represents a vital investment in the local community, creating dozens of job opportunities for residents and facilitating nine staff transfers.

Robust development

Among these new positions, the company highlighted the employment of Leon Madonsa, an unemployed youth graduate who was appointed as a trainee manager.

"This initiative underscores Choppies' commitment to nurturing local talent and supporting the economic development of the Kavango East Region," Flanagan said.

“We are excited to not only provide a new shopping experience but also to embrace local suppliers in our operations. By integrating local products into our supply chain, we can further stimulate entrepreneurship among local farmers and producers," he added.

Nkurenkuru mayor Jafet Markus Muti expressed pride in the new store and its potential impact in the community.

“Today, we celebrate not just the inauguration of a new retail outlet but also the promise of growth, opportunity and collaboration within our beloved Kavango East Region. This new store embodies a robust investment in our area, reflecting the belief that Nkurenkuru is a vibrant place with immense potential,” Muti said.
