Wu commends Nujoma's role in China-Namibia friendship
In a tribute to late founding president Sam Nujoma this week, controversial Chinese businesswoman Qiaoxia 'Stina' Wu said Nujoma always encouraged her to invest in and develop Namibia.
Wu, who has been the subject of a string of newspaper headlines in Namibia, often linked to her property empire, said she is saddened by Nujoma’s passing, a man she first heard about when she was 19 years old.
Nujoma died on 8 February in Windhoek at the age of 95.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of the founding president of Namibia. This loss is not only felt by the people of Namibia, but by all of Africa and by those of us who had the honour of calling him a friend,” Wu said.
“When I was young, before I had even been to Namibia, I heard about the legend of the founding father, which sparked my curiosity about the African country. At the age of 19, I chose to explore Namibia.”
She said Nujoma “always exuded strength and spirit," adding that he "often spoke of the history of China-Namibia relations and would fondly recall the origins of our friendship.
“At the same time, like a loving father, he would ask about my life and work in Namibia, encouraging me to invest and develop in the country,
“The enduring friendship between China and Namibia will continue to thrive, not only for our generation but for generations to come.”
Wu said Nujoma will be remembered for his role in cementing the relationship between China and Namibia.
“His contributions to the deepening of the China-Namibia friendship will forever be remembered. Both the people of Namibia and the Chinese people will never forget him, and we will always hold him in our hearts. May his journey be peaceful, and may we honour his legacy.”
