An Olufuko Annual Cultural Festival fundraising event held over the weekend raised over N$900 000, with the Outapi Town Council pledging over N$600 000.

The gala dinner held at Outapi was graced by the presence of deputy minister of urban and rural development Evelyn !Nawases-Taeyele, Swapo secretary-general Sophia Shaningwa and deputy minister of information Modestus Amuste. According to !Nawases-Taeyele, the festival serves as a platform to showcase the diversity and beauty of the Owambo cultural heritage.

“It reminds us of the rich fabric of traditions that make Namibia unique. In a dynamic world that is increasingly imbued by globalisation and rapid change, the preservation of our cultural identity is more important than ever,” she said.

“Our traditions are not relics of the past, but living expressions that continue to shape our present and guide our future.”

The festival is expected to take place from 21 June to 2 July.
