N$5.3m museum outreach programme ends
News in short
A N$5.3 million museum outreach programme, which spanned 46 months and was jointly funded by the European Union (EU) and the Goethe-Institut, drew to a close late last week.
According to the EU, the project strengthened civil society and cultural diversity in Namibia through "social cohesion, inter-ethnic dialogue and cultural tolerance".
"The important achievements under the project include the strengthening of cultural rights, in particularly of marginalised and indigenous communities," Ana-Beatriz Martins, the EU ambassador to Namibia, said.
She further pointed out that strengthening community-based museums "empowers local communities and indigenous minorities to express their culture and preserve their traditions, while providing a sense of belonging as well as the opportunity to explore their roots."
