‘Rapist pastor’ still on the run

Kenya Kambowe
A week after the case was opened, police in the Omusati Region are still in pursuit of a 40-year-old self-proclaimed pastor who allegedly raped and impregnated his 15-year-old stepdaughter.

This was confirmed by Omusati police commander, Commissioner Ismael Basson, who yesterday called on the public to assist in tracing the suspect. “He has not yet been arrested. We are still looking for him,” he said.

Namibian Sun has established that the suspect has ties in Angola and may have fled to the neighbouring country.

Raped repeatedly

The so-called pastor - whose identity is known by this publication - allegedly raped his 15-year-old stepdaughter on numerous occasions at Ombogo village in the Tsandi constituency since July last year. He reportedly lured the victim into sexual relations by teaching her and her nine-year-old niece about the sexual reproductive system.

He then took advantage of the victim when her mother went away for a few days.

The suspect at one point locked the girl up in a room for over a week, raping her repeatedly during this time, she narrated. The victim, a grade eight learner at a local school, gave birth to a baby boy in May.

A recent Namibian Sun trip to Ombogo village uncovered that the mother of the victim reportedly knew about the rapes and the pregnancy, but attempted to keep the matter under wraps.

Prior to her stepfather repeatedly raping her, the girl was the victim of another rape in 2022 when a family friend - who also happens to be a self-proclaimed pastor - raped her while she was sleeping with her siblings.

Meanwhile, the family has appealed for public assistance as they currently survive on government drought relief aid and unemployment grants.

They need baby milk, clothes and blankets, they said.
