Woman stabs, kills teen over epilepsy accusations

Tuyeimo Haidula
A 22-year-old woman was arrested over the weekend for allegedly stabbing and killing another woman – aged only 18 – in Oshakati’s Onawa location.

Oshana Region police community affairs official, warrant officer Frieda Shikole, confirmed the incident, adding that the deceased allegedly went to the suspect's house to confront her on allegations she made that the victim suffered from epilepsy.

A fight erupted between the two women. Details surrounding the allegations and why they resulted in a physical altercation remain murky.

“During the fight, the deceased got stabbed with a knife by the suspect,” she said.

Shikole said the deceased was rushed to Oshakati State Hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court this week.

Man struck by lightning

In a separate incident, a 28-year-old man died after he was struck by lightning at Onalusheshete village in the Nehale Lyampingana constituency on Monday.

Oshikoto police regional commander, Commissioner Teopolina Kalompo-Nashikaku, said the deceased, who was employed as a domestic worker, left the house where he was working to charge his phone when the incident occurred.

The deceased reportedly stayed at a neighbour’s house waiting for his phone to charge, and in that time, it began raining.

Kalompo-Nashikaku said the deceased was sitting under a tree when the lightning struck him, and he died on the spot.
