Weekend robberies claim goods worth over N$70 000
Thieves made off with goods worth roughly N$76 770 over the weekend, according to the Namibian Police.
Three separate incidents were recorded in Nkurenkuru in the Kavango West Region on Friday. In the first, a suspect allegedly broke into a house in Extension Two, fleeing with two laptops and two cellphones valued at N$25 000.
Then, at Fourth Square Flats, a suspect allegedly broke into a victim’s room and stole a laptop valued at N$7 000. A suspect made off with two laptops, cellphone and shoes valued at N$4 400 from the third victim’s room.
On Saturday in Windhoek’s Katutura, a man was reportedly attacked by a group of thieves, who then fled with his cellphone and N$25 756 in cash. In another incident in the same area, a man was reportedly attacked in his room when a suspect broke in and stole his cellphone valued at N$10 000.
In Okahandja, three suspects reportedly entered a gambling house and threatened victims with a panga and knives. The suspects broke into the safe and stole four bags containing an undisclosed amount of cash and two cellphones. According to the police, only one bag containing N$3 914 was recovered.
Also on Saturday at Shilemba Complex in Ongwediva, a group of suspects reportedly hijacked a taxi and assaulted the driver. They stabbed him with a knife while demanding money and fled with the victim’s cell phone, car keys and N$700 in cash. The thieves reportedly also stripped the car of its battery and spare wheel.
