Undercover operation leads to major drug bust in Walvis Bay
News in short
An undercover police operation on Tuesday led to a major drug bust in Kuisebmond, Walvis Bay, resulting in the arrest of two suspects for dealing in cannabis and money laundering.
The operation was carried out at around 14:30, involving a coordinated effort by law enforcement at both the Kuisebmond Shoprite and a residence in the Tutaleni area.
The operation began when an undercover police officer placed an order for cannabis, which led to the delivery of the drugs by the suspects. The operation resulted in the immediate arrest of a 29-year-old Namibian man and a 22-year-old Namibian woman.
Subsequent investigations and a search of the suspects’ residence led to the discovery of a substantial quantity of drugs.
Erongo police spokesperson, Chief Inspector Ileni Shapumba, said 2 285 grams of skunk cannabis were recovered, with an estimated street value of N$114 250.
Shapumba added that investigations continue as they seek to uncover more details about the drug distribution network. "This operation marks a significant step in the fight against drug trafficking in the region."
Authorities urge anyone with information related to this case or similar activities to come forward to assist in the investigation.
