Two newborns dumped in Walvis Bay
NEWS IN SHORT
The Erongo police are investigating separate cases of suspected concealment of birth after two deceased newborns were discovered early yesterday at the Walvis Bay municipal dumping site.
According to Senior Inspector Hilma Shomongula, the discoveries were made by individuals collecting recyclables – one baby was found at around 11:00 and the other at 16:00, shortly after waste trucks offloaded rubbish.
Concealment of birth typically means deliberately hiding the birth of a child, especially if the child was stillborn or died shortly after birth. This may involve secretly disposing of the body or failing to report the birth to authorities.
The bodies were taken to the Walvis Bay State Hospital and placed in the police mortuary for autopsies. Police urge anyone with information to come forward.
