A one-year-old toddler died on Saturday after she drowned in a bucket at Farm Wendelberg, situated about 25 kilometres from Tsumeb behind Tschudi mine in the Oshikoto Region.

It is alleged that the baby was playing outside with other children while her mother was doing laundry. Later, the woman discovered that the baby had drowned in a 20-litre bucket of water.

The toddler’s remains were transported to Tsumeb state hospital for an autopsy, police said.

In a similar incident on the same day, another toddler drowned in a bucket of water at Oniimwandi village in Onayena.

According to the police report, the one-year-old girl was allegedly left playing alone in the house near a bucket full of water.

“It further alleged that the mother was sleeping under a tree at the time.”

The body was transported to the Onandjokwe state mortuary for a post-mortem.
