Two arrested after allegedly burning Swapo flag
Two men are behind bars after they allegedly set fire to a Swapo flag this weekend.
The Namibian Police over the weekend reported that two men were arrested after they removed a N$50 Swapo flag fastened to a tree and burned it in Ongongo Village in Opuwo.
The pair were charged under the Contravention of Section 6 (f) of the Code of Conduct for Political Parties and Political Organisations.
Multiple suicides
In Okahao, police reported that the lifeless body of Lukas Silas Panduleni (26) was discovered sitting against a wall with a firearm in his lap. He died from a suspected suicide.
"It is alleged that the deceased was seen earlier in the day in the company of another person, and they were reportedly intoxicated," a police report stated.
The firearm is registered to a security company. "No foul play is suspected, and the police investigations are ongoing," the report concluded.
In another suspected suicide over the weekend, Adolf Kanyemba (34) allegedly died after drinking cleaning liquids.
"It is alleged that on Friday at the deceased's residence in Nomtsoub, Tsumeb, a family member overheard the deceased saying that he consumed scale remover chemicals. The scale remover was in the house bought by one of the family members to clean the house.
The family rushed him to Tsumeb State Hospital, where he was admitted. However, he died the following day.
The police reported that a family member said Kanyemba had struggled with depression.
Several cases of rape
Numerous cases of rape were reported to the police over the weekend. One involved a six-year-old.
On Saturday, at Okaliveva village in the Oshikoto Region, police reported that a 25-year-old man allegedly lured his six-year-old cousin to his room to "play games on his phone" and attempted to have sexual intercourse with the minor.
"It is alleged that the suspect pulled the victim from her room to his room, telling her to watch games on his phone. It is further reported that upon their arrival in the suspect's room, he undressed the victim and tried to have sexual intercourse with her, but a third person who is also from their house showed up," the police reported.
The suspect was arrested and was expected to appear before the Ondangwa Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Cases of rape were also reported in Karasburg, Tsumeb, Aroab, and Ariamsvlei, police said.
