Twelve-year-old chased with a knife, raped
The police in the Oshikoto Region are investigating the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl. The incident took place while the girl was returning home from school.
According to a preliminary police report, the incident happened more than a week ago on a Friday near the Oshigambo cemetery at around 1:00 pm when the victim, a grade seven student at a local school, was confronted by a man sitting beneath a tree.
He called to her, but she refused to go to him. She ran away and the suspect reportedly chased her, armed with a traditional knife known as an 'Omukonda'. He eventually caught the girl, tied her up and allegedly raped her, police said.
“The victim eventually stopped running and surrendered herself to the suspect, who forcibly took her to a nearby well. He tied her hands with a rope and pulled her out. The suspect then had sexual intercourse with the victim under duress," says the police report.
The twelve-year-old girl was warned not to tell anyone about the incident, but on Tuesday she told her cousin what had happened. She was accompanied to the nearest police station and the case was reported.
No one has yet been arrested in connection with the incident and according to the police, the victim cannot identify the guilty person either. She informed the police the man had worn a mask.
