Thugs assault security guard to death at Okahandja

14-year-old girl raped
The police are investigating a series of murders and rapes that were reported over the weekend.

Tobias Daniel (52), a security guard and caretaker at a house under construction in Okahandja, was found dead at the construction site on Saturday following a deadly attack.

According to a police report, Daniel was allegedly attacked by suspects who tied his hands with ropes, gagged him with a cloth and assaulted him with an unknown object all over his body.

It is suspected that his attackers also suffocated him.

His lifeless body was discovered by a builder in the early morning hours. No arrests have been made yet and his next of kin have been informed.

In another incident, Hanyemba Gilion, a 43-year-old man from Nandingwa village in Kavango West, bled to death after being cut by a knife he was carrying on Friday.

Police say Gilion was heavily intoxicated and fell numerous times. It is suspected that the knife he was carrying at his waist cut his lower leg during his falls, causing massive blood loss.

Meanwhile, Theresia Sirenga Kudumo (34) died from what police suspect was exposure to freezing temperatures at Nzinze village in Kavango West on Saturday. The late Kudumo allegedly left a local shebeen in Mankete village but never reached her home. Her lifeless body was found in a mahangu field.

Rape and murder

In Otjiwamutenja village in Otjozondjupa, a 23-year-old man allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl on Saturday. Police reported that the suspect allegedly followed the girl into her home, grabbed her arm, forced her to the ground and sexually assaulted her. An eyewitness reportedly discovered the suspect in the act of assaulting the victim. The suspect was apprehended.

Meanwhile, in Okatjetje, Opuwo, a 34-year-old woman was allegedly raped on her way home from work and robbed of her cellphone on Saturday. The police reported that a male suspect approached her from behind and grabbed her by the neck and attacked her before fleeing with her phone.

No arrests have been made and the stolen phone is yet to be recovered.

A 28-year-old male was arrested after he was accused of murdering a man in Ongwediva at a local shebeen on Saturday. Police reported that the victim was stabbed with a knife in his shoulder and back and was declared dead on arrival at Oshakati State Hospital. The deceased’s next of kin have not yet been informed.
