Suspected robber killed in Mondesa
NEWS IN SHORT
A 32-year-old man was shot through the right ear last Saturday and died on the spot while allegedly trying to rob two men at gunpoint on Mandume Ndemufayo Street in the Mondesa location in Swakopmund.
The deceased, Simon Natangwe Shingenge, was accompanied by two other suspected robbers, who fled the scene while Shingenge tried to rob his victims of their valuable items.
“It is alleged that the suspect [who allegedly fired the shot] and his colleague were coming from work when they were attacked by three male persons with knives, who were demanding they surrender their valuables, which prompted the suspect to draw out his pistol," a police report into the incident reads.
"It is further alleged that two of the assailants fled, but the victim proceeded with the attack. It is reported that the deceased was found with an open okapi knife in his right hand,” police stated.
The suspect, aged 54, was arrested but was later released on warning.
