SHORTS: Soldier allegedly murders niece
A 22-year-old woman, Mayira Kapango, was allegedly murdered by her uncle, reportedly a soldier, on Wednesday evening at Mbambi village in the Kavango East Region.
Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu, head of crime investigations in the region, confirmed the incident, which occurred around 20:00. The victim’s family has been informed.
According to Kanyetu, Kapango was in her room listening to music with headphones when the suspect entered and struck her on the forehead with an unknown object, causing a fatal open wound.
"Kapango was overheard screaming once by other housemates. When they rushed to her room, they found her lying in a pool of blood. The suspect had already fled the scene," Kanyetu said.
The family believes the attacker is Kapango’s uncle, a soldier stationed in Windhoek. Witnesses reported seeing him outside Kapango’s room shortly before the incident, but he disappeared afterward.
Police investigations are ongoing, and authorities are pursuing the suspect.
