SHORT: Police hunt for alleged rapist
Police in Oshana Region have launched for a manhunt for a 27-year-old man accused of allegedly raping and impregnating a 15-year-old girl at Ompundja village.
Oshana crime investigation coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Frederick Ndjadila, said the alleged incident occurred in December 2024 but was only reported to the police yesterday after the victim's grandmother discovered she was one month pregnant.
Ndjadila said the victim received a text message from the suspect to meet at a specific house under coercive circumstances.
“On the way when they met, the [allegedly] suspect started touching the victim on her breasts, then the suspect lifted the victim up and put her down on the ground. He then removed the victim's clothes and took out his penis and insert it into the victim's vagina,” he said.
Ndjadila said the suspect allegedly forced the victim to the ground and held her down as he raped her.
He said the case of the one-month pregnant victim has also been handed to social workers for further assistance.
Ndjadila said the suspect, who is a neighbour to the victim, remains at large and police have requested for help from the community to track him down.
