Search underway after man jumps into sea

An emergency rescue operation was launched on Monday after a witness reported seeing a man jump into the sea from the Swakopmund jetty.
Sometime around 12:45 and 13:00, a witness reported seeing a man standing on the jetty, staring at the water for several minutes before suddenly leaping into the ocean.
According to the witness, the man was wearing a navy blue jacket with yellow stripes and flip-flops.
He was described as having a brown complexion, being of average height and estimated to be around 30 years old.
Emergency services, including the police, the Namibian Navy and local rescue teams, were quickly alerted to the scene and launched an extensive search to locate the individual.
Despite the ongoing search, authorities had not received a formal report by yesterday afternoon of a missing person matching the man's description.
