RCC: Over N$3m in equipment stolen

The Roads Contractor Company (RCC) has lost over N$3 million worth of equipment – from 2019 to date - due to theft on its campsites.

This was revealed by acting CEO Maria Nakale, who said RCC has over the years relied on staff to protect its equipment at campsites, but this has led to theft.

At the time, RCC had not been able to hire a security company to safeguard its equipment due to financial constraints, she said.

“The market we are in has companies with equipment similar to what we have and whenever their equipment is worn out, they just go to our campsites and trade with the workers stationed there.

“We had an employee who was guarding RCC assets at a camp in Gobabis where six tyres and a grader transmission were stolen at night, and there was not a single trace of a break in,” she said.

She narrated another situation in Tsumeb when RCC’s crusher “was left unattended, which led to locals stealing aggregates from the site”.

She added that these incidents contribute to the company not being able to recover financially.

However, according to Nakale, RCC has since accelerated the procurement process to hire a security company, which has reduced the theft cases.
