Rapes, suicides dominate weekend crime

A 28-year-old man was arrested for luring a four-year-old girl into nearby bushes and raping her.

The incident took place in Sihepera village in the Kavango West Region, according to the Namibian Police’s weekend crime report.

In Windhoek's Damara Location, another four-year-old girl was raped by a 15-year-old boy at the house where they both reside. The suspect was said to have appeared in court yesterday.

In another incident in Opuwo’s Orutjandja location, it is alleged that a 27-year-old woman – who was on her way home – was dragged into a riverbed by an unknown suspect and raped.

The suspect then ran away.

Suicides

On Saturday in the Oshana Region’s Onekaku village, a 26-year-old Angolan man died by suicide.

Manuel Domingu’s body was discovered by his girlfriend, hanging from the roof of his room.

"No foul play suspected, no suicide note was found and the next of kin have been informed. Police investigations continue," the report read.

Further, 21-year-old Albertus Mandi Natangwe Albertus died by suicide in Outapi’s Omikwayanghwii village.

He was found hanging in his room with a wire around his neck.

"His body was discovered by his housemate. His next of kin have been informed.”

In Omuthiya, 35-year-old Simon Alfeus also died by suicide, and was found in a field by a passer-by with a wire around his neck.

Shack fire

Meanwhile, police reported that three children died in Windhoek after the shack they were sleeping in burned down.

"It is alleged that the shack caught fire while everyone was fast asleep. It is further alleged that three minor children - aged two, seven and nine, one girl and two boys - died in the horrific incident.

“The cause is yet to be determined and police investigations continue," the report read.

Learner shot, killed

At Rundu's Millennium Park, a grade 10 learner died after he was shot by an 18-year-old man.

"It is alleged that Alpo Malaka Sipilikita was walking down the street when he was shot and killed. His next of kin have been informed and police investigations continue," police said.
